# How do I create a discount code for my store?

Create discount (coupon) codes from **Marketing → Discounts** — customers enter the code at checkout to get money off their order.

## Steps

1. Go to **Marketing → Discounts** and click **Add Discount**.
2. Enter a **Coupon Code** (the text customers will type in).
3. Choose the **Coupon Type**: **Percentage** or **Fixed** amount.
4. Enter the **Coupon Amount** (for Fixed) or **Coupon Percentage** (for Percentage) — percentage discounts must be between 0 and 100.
5. Set **Status** to Active so it can be used, or Inactive to keep it hidden/disabled.
6. Save. You can search, filter by status/type, edit, or bulk-delete codes from the same page at any time.

## Common problems

- Discount code isn't working at checkout → confirm its **Status** is set to Active; inactive codes are rejected even if typed correctly.
- Can't set a percentage above 100% → percentage discounts are capped at 100; use a Fixed amount discount instead if you need to cover the full order and more (e.g. store credit style offers).
- Need a different discount per product or variant → not currently supported; the Discounts form only has a code, type, amount/percentage, and status — there's no field to restrict a code to specific products or variants. It applies to the whole order.
- Deleted a discount by mistake → deletion is permanent and requires confirmation; there's no restore, so you'll need to recreate the code.
