# Store design or home page got wiped after a theme change

If you use a custom theme's **Sync theme** button, read the confirmation dialog carefully first — despite the "sync" wording, it resets the theme and permanently erases your sections, colors, fonts, and content customizations back to the theme's original state.

## Steps

1. Before clicking **Sync theme** (or any "reset" action) on a custom theme, check the confirmation dialog — if it mentions erasing customizations, cancel unless you're sure you want to start over.
2. If your design was already wiped, check **Online Store → Themes → My themes** for the theme you were previously using, and reactivate it if it's still listed with your edits intact.
3. If you can't identify which theme had your customizations, contact support with your store name; be aware that a full restore isn't always available and any edits made since the reset may not come back.
4. If your home page specifically was deleted (rather than the whole theme reset), check theme settings for a restore option, or select a different template and make sure it's set to **Published**.
5. Once resolved, change your account password if you shared login credentials with support during the investigation.

## Common problems

- Clicked what looked like an update/sync button and lost your entire store design → this is the expected (if confusingly labeled) behavior of the theme reset action; unfortunately a full recovery isn't guaranteed, only partial customizations may be restorable.
- Home page is missing and the product page editor won't open → check theme settings for a "restore home page" option, and make sure your chosen template is set to Published.
- This happened while ad campaigns were actively running → contact support immediately and flag that campaigns are live, since this affects how urgently it's handled.
- Only part of your previous design came back after a restore → this can happen; you may need to manually rebuild the remaining sections yourself.
