How to change your store's theme and edit its sections
Go to Online Store → Themes to browse and apply a theme, then click Customize on your active theme to edit its sections, colors, and fonts in the theme builder.
Steps
- Open Online Store → Themes to see the available theme library.
- Click a theme's Apply button to switch to it; you'll be asked whether to import its demo data (Import demo & apply) or start with your existing content (Start clean).
- Once a theme is active, click Customize to open the theme builder for that theme.
- In the builder, click any section to edit its content, or use the Add Blocks panel to add new sections; use the Styles tab on a selected element to change just its color/font without affecting the rest of the page.
- For small code-level tweaks, open Custom Code in the theme settings — there are separate areas for custom CSS, a head script, and a footer JS script.
Common problems
- Want an AI-generated store design, not just an AI landing pageclick the AI theme option on the Online Store → Themes page to generate a custom design from your brand description. The number of AI theme generations available is tied to your plan; if you've used up your allowance, contact support about upgrading.
- Want to build the entire store with your own custom codethis isn't supported; you can customize an existing theme with the drag-and-drop tools and add small code snippets (CSS/head/footer JS), but you can't replace the whole store with custom-coded pages.
- Want to import a theme built outside Dropifythis isn't currently supported; choose and customize one of the built-in themes instead.
- Want to change your store's namethis isn't currently changeable; customers see your connected domain, not your internal store name.
- No option to add HTML to a product descriptionuse the Code HTML block from the Add Blocks panel in the page builder instead of the description field.
